5th January – Anzio and Casino by Des Fitzgerald

This is a Zoom talk and will take place at 6pm on Thursday 5th January.

Des FitzGerald is a former Army Officer with an unhealthy interest in military history, doctrine and battlefields.  He is badged member of the International Guild of Battlefield Guides (Badge No 88) and has planned and led tours to N.W. Europe, Italy, Ireland, and the Crimea.  He is interested in all military history, but particularly the Second World War.

Anzio and Casino

The four Battles for Cassino has been compared to the great battles fought on the Western Front in WW1, due to the enormous losses, mud and difficult terrain. The landing at Anzio could have captured Rome and shortened the Italian Campaign but didn’t due to dithering Allied commanders.
