The four Battles for Cassino has been compared to the great battles fought on the Western Front in WW1, due to the enormous losses, mud and difficult terrain. The landing at Anzio could have captured Rome and shortened the Italian Campaign but didn’t due to dithering Allied commanders.

The cost – includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, hotel accommodation, coach, museums and guide, although drinks are not included – is £2,250 per person. Please note that this is the cost of a single occupancy in a single room as we wish to be open with the all-inclusive costs. A discount of 10% is available for bookings with two people sharing a room.

You are accompanied by a tour leader to ensure that your tour runs smoothly.

Itinerary

Day 1

Meet at Gatwick airport and fly to Naples.

Day 2

Visit the sites of ‘The Winter Line’ and Battle of San Pietro December 1943.

Day 3

Visit the sites French operations, in January 1944 and 1st Battle for Cassino in the same month. After lunch visit the sites of the Second Battle of Cassino in February 1944 and the Third Battle of Cassino in March 1944

Day 4

Visit the sites of the fourth and final battle of Cassino in May 1944. With the arrival of the spring weather, ground conditions were improved and it would be possible to deploy large formations and armour effectively. Then onto Anzio.

Day 5

Visit the sites of the Anzio beachhead and the failed assault on Campoleone.

Day 6

Visit sites further inland including The Boot, The Starfish, The Lobster’s Claws, The Fortress, and The Caves.

Day 7

Return home.
